On Saturday, Dec. 14, Viterbo will be saying goodbye to its graduating seniors. One is Sophia Woychik, a Spanish Education major. Woychik says, “I have always felt a calling to the education field.”

As she reflected on, her major choice, Woychik briefly touched on experiences that she had in high school working with students who could not speak English and how she wanted to become a Spanish teacher to help limit the language barriers that students and teachers face in the community.

This year, she is off campus student teaching in the Altoona school district. After graduation, she will begin teaching in Alma Center high school. “I will also be the English Language Learner coordinator for all grades, k-12. I am so looking forward to this,” Woychik says.

Throughout her time at Viterbo University, Woychik had many great encounters with staff, students, and classes. She mentioned that in the three and a half years that she has been at Viterbo, she has learned a lot about herself as a person and the field in which she studies.

Woychik was involved in many activities as a student at Viterbo. She participated in the study abroad program spending a semester in Salamanca, Spain, and a service-learning project in Granada, Spain, for a summer.

Woychik also mentioned that Viterbo has many influential professors. “All of my professors have supported and challenged me in so many different ways. I will miss them dearly,” she states. During her junior year, she was a resident assistant. She admits, “A lot of my residents made a major impact on who I am as a person.”

Woychik wanted to end her collegiate career on a positive note. She gives this advice to younger students: “Viterbo is an incredible place filled with even more incredible people. Enjoy every minute of it.”
