Feed my soul and "Feed My Starving Children"

A weekend of abundant song, laughter, and charity. Viterbo University’s concert choir hit the road, once again, to represent the best of our college at surrounding schools, church congregations, and beyond.

Characteristically, this annual choir tour takes place each spring semester. However, this year its tour happened this past mid-semester break.

Leaving La Crosse, the group made appearances at high schools in Tomah, Altoona, and Elk Mound. Following these visits, the choir gave a concert at St. Olaf parish in Eau Claire.

The music exchanged between the college and high school groups was something indescribably beautiful. The concert, a major success, was dedicated to the many alumni in attendance. Also present was Viterbo President Glenna Temple, who drove all the way to show her support.

Leaving the state of Wisconsin, the next day, the choir was given the unique opportunity to lend a hand to the organization “Feed My Starving Children.” Based in Minneapolis, the choir helped pack meals at their distribution center in Eagan, Minn.

All hands on deck were required; stations upon stations were filled with red Viterbo shirts as students mixed ingredients, portioned baggies, and packed boxes. The hours flew by in an instant, but, pallet upon pallet, boxes of portioned meals filled the warehouse shelves.

Once production commenced, cheers of celebration erupted; then all were invited to pray over the meals before they make their journey. The prayer, in fact, was led by sophomore music and finance major, Nathan Janzen.

At the end of the day, Viterbo’s concert choir helped pack 220 boxes, which contained 47,520 meals, enough food to feed 130 children for a year. These boxes, in particular, will soon make their way to nourish starving children in Haiti.

A remarkable act of kindness, the group left the facility with many thank you’ s from staff and volunteers. An act of love and charity, like assisting FMSC, encompass Brett Robison’s, director, theme for this semester.

It is love, simply love, that resides in this year’s concert choir program. Whether it’s through their gorgeous music or a packaged meal, unconditional love is what this group will share.
