Wonderful Weekends at VU
Weekends are a time for college students to unwind, take a deep breath, and try to think about something other than the assignments and exams constantly looming in the distance. Sometimes it can be overwhelming to decide what to do with the open nights.
This is where Weekends at VU comes in. Previously known as VU after Dark, this organization has been around for almost 10 years planning safe, fun, and free activities for students every single Friday and Saturday.
Weekends at VU provides students with an alternative to going home or going out. It gives them a chance to stay on campus and experience what the university has to offer. The organization has put on events such as bingo, game nights, trivia nights, canvas painting, and more. They have even hired groups such as Mission Improvable and live band karaoke. These events help create an on-campus community.
“It has been really nice to be able to see students actually enjoying the things that are being put on,” José Garcia, Student Engagement Coordinator at Viterbo, says that has been one of his favorite parts about the organization. He also likes how open it is to receiving feedback. The group likes to hear what is going well and what students like along with what they would like to see changed or adapted. “The fact that it is such a fluid and organic organization really drives it home for me,” he states.
Whether it is a needed break from studying, an opportunity to meet new people outside of your usual group, or just to see what Viterbo has to offer on campus, Weekends at VU activities are a great option for Friday and Saturday nights.
