Star Wars: The One-Man Trilogy

A time, not long ago, presented by a Canadian, from not too far away… Star Wars: The One-Man Trilogy came to campus. It was a night chock full of laughter and enough Star Wars references to choke a Rancor.

For the Star Wars nerds, myself included, it was a dream come true. All three original movies, mimed with perfect comedic timing. Truly, a once in a life time experience.

The show itself is famous for requiring little to no special effects; this includes props and sound effects. As you might have assumed, Charles Ross relies only on his own talent to tell the story.

Impressions of favorite characters such as Darth Vader, Yoda, and the Emporor were all present. Not only that, but recreating famous actions scenes, vocalizing the sounds of Tie-Fighters and lightsabers, kept the audience on their toes.

Charles Ross, a man with far too much free time, has toured the world performing his numerous One-Man Trilogies. He has performed in famous venues such as London’s West End and the Sydney Opera House.

Like many students on campus, Ross had a dream to perform. He went to college and earned a bachelor’s degree in theatre.

Unfortunately for Ross, he had a difficult time finding work as an actor. As result, he then tried his luck at doing stand up.

He admitted to ‘bombing’, many times, and found himself close to giving up. Then, After rewatching his favorite film, Star Wars: A New Hope, he came up with a seemingly absurd idea.

From that ‘crazy idea’ manifested the show he has entertained the world with. Along with a formal endorsement for LucasFilm; Ross has also received high praise for his shows. He continues to peruse his dream and support a family, one he is justly proud of.

Not only was this performance an opportunity for laughter; but it was a lesson for students who wish to follow their dreams. Ross has shown us that no dream too small, or geeky, is impossible to obtain. He demanded that young dreamers should not abandon the little child in all of us. “May the force be with you”.
