Men’s Indoor Track & Field
The Red Hawk Invitational at the Willmore Center hosted in Ripon, Wis., is where the Viterbo men's track and field team finished ninth of 11 teams on Saturday. Overall, the V-Hawks earned one event title and three top-five finishes, setting a program record in the process.
Individually, there were four V-Hawks that stood out amongst the rest during the competition. First was junior Maurice Savage, from Bloomfield, Conn., placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.2 seconds. He followed with a 13th place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.75 seconds.
Alongside was senior Steven Sam, from Jonesboro, Ga., who ran an indoor personal best in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.83, placing 17th. Alongside him was sophomore Vaunghtre Young from Las Vegas, Nev., who ran the event for the first time in his career, finishing 22nd with a time of 2:12.12.
Then sophomore Justin Moore from Scurry, Texas won the long jump, leaping 6.88 meters on his first jump, breaking the program indoor record. He also placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.95 meters.
Finally, freshman Damian Boberg, from Dodge, Wisconsin, marked a personal best in shotput with a 14th place finish marking of 11.56 meters. His distance of 11.48 meters in the weight throw fell just short of his career-best.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Overall, the Viterbo women's track and field finished sixth of 11 teams at the Red Hawk Invitational at the Willmore Center hosted in Ripon, Wis., on Saturday. The V-Hawks won one event and collected five top-five finishes.
Sprinter and sophomore Ashley Caswell, from Wild Rose, Wis., was named the North Star Athletic Association Women's Track Athlete-of-the-Week by the conference office. She has previously earned her first athlete-of-the-week award of the season and the first indoor award of her career. She was given the award twice in the outdoor season last year (2018).
She has also won the 60-meter dash at the Red Hawk Invitational at Ripon College on Saturday. Her time of 7.88 seconds was a personal-best and currently leads the North Star Athletic Association. She is inching closer to the indoor program record of 7.83 set by Kayla King in 2015. She followed her performance with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.59 seconds. She currently ranks second in the conference in the event.
Senior Makala Teske from Lyndon Station, Wis., that had led the team in the 400-meter dash with a fourth-place finish in a time of 1:03.85. Also finishing was freshman Madison Davis, from Menomonie, Wis., who had finished 12th with a time of 1:05.83.
Alongside them both, was sophomore Hannah Coleman, from Byron, Minn., who placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 2.95 meters. Caswell rounded out the top finishes by landing in fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 5.17 meters.
Then finally, junior Kerry Strock, from Freeport, Ill., threw a personal-best 10.47 meters in the weight throw to finished 27th.
