Anderson, Burton, and Clement Integral to Success of Men’s Basketball

Cade Anderson, Jezzriah Burton, and Alex Clement are three of Viterbo men’s basketball players this season. These men were huge components in their season opener win against Judon University in a nail-biting 59-57. Let’s learn a little more about these individuals.

First, senior Cade Anderson is a Business Administration major with a Human Resources minor. He has been playing basketball for as long as he can remember. It has been a sport that has always fascinated him. The competition, skills, and etiquette of the game intrigued him, and the competition of the game has always been his favorite part of it.

If there was one piece of advice he could give to young players, it would be, “Always work hard! Never let someone tell you that you can’t. If you are truly invested into the game, you will put the blood, sweat, and tears into working on your craft.”

His biggest supporters have always been his parents. His mom and dad always pick him up when he’s down, teach him great lessons, and push him to play his best.

“They have always told me to work hard in whatever I love, and with that, the right pieces will fall into place.”

Jezzriah Burton is from Milwaukee and is a transfer student from Madison College. He is a Sport Science major and has been playing basketball since about the fifth grade.

He admits, “I'm a Lakers fanatic, too. Kobe Bryant was always my biggest influence. I would watch him, then go try and do what I saw him do. I love Kobe.”

His favorite part about basketball is playing on or watching a team that clicks. To him, that is the team that does everything well together as a unit because those teams are usually the most successful.

If there was one piece of advice he could give to young players, it would be, “Get in the weight room and take that seriously. You need to be strong, fast, have endurance, etc. to play any college sport. Starting the weight room process in high school will be a huge advantage when you get to college.”

His biggest supporters have always been his parents, whether it is making sure he has the right equipment, making sure he gets to all his necessary events or just cheering him on, they have been his biggest supporters.

Finally, junior Alex Clement is from Pewaukee, Wis., and is an Accounting major. He started playing in preschool.

His favorite part is that it has introduced him and has taken him places that he would have never experienced without playing. He has been able to meet and build connections with people that he wouldn’t have met otherwise. He also gets to travel around the country seeing different cities.

His advice is, “Don’t try to be somebody you’re not. When it comes to basketball, they recruited you for a reason. Whatever your strengths as a player and a person are, you should play to those and be the best.”

His family tries to travel to as many games, and they never missed a single game throughout his youth and high school experiences. Also, his brothers were always the first ones to check out the final scores or ask how the games went if they couldn’t go.
