Volleyball Alumnae Return to the VAC for Annual Event

On October 6, the Student Alumni Ambassadors Organization (SAA) hosted an alumni volleyball game, inviting those who had previously attended Viterbo to come back, catch up with some old friends, and relive the glory days.

Led by Kathy Duerwachter, the SAA organization’s primary mission is to promote networking between current Viterbo students and alumni. They sometimes partner with local businesses and restaurants to host events such as First Thursday, an event that takes place the first Thursday of every month at a new local restaurant to help with networking. They also encourage giving back to the university through volunteering and other efforts.

Duerwachter is also a member of the Viterbo University Alumni Association Board, which helps foster the lifetime involvement and commitment of Viterbo alumni through a variety of programs and activities that support and enhance the university's mission and values. The purpose of this organization is to help endorse and advocate for the university and its graduates. This is achieved by helping promote ongoing alumni financial support of university endeavors and initiatives, facilitating communication between the university and the alumni, offering perspective to the current university community, collaborating with and support from the university Alumni Office, strengthening the sense of community between alumni and the university, and promoting social, spiritual, intellectual and vocational opportunities for students and alumni.

The volleyball game is just one of many events hosed by the SAA. This event was open to Viterbo alumni and the Viterbo volleyball team, and the primary focus was on fun for the participants, rather than actually winning any games.

When asked about how it felt to be back playing volleyball at Viterbo, alumna Abby Dreger stated, “I appreciate you for putting on this event and look forward to it every year now. Going back to play at Viterbo’s gym brings back so many good memories and takes me back to ‘the good ole days’ once again. It’s a great event and nice to see all the alumni honored for their hard work put in during our time at Viterbo!”
