‘Pepper the Performer’ Puts New Twist on Live Performing

On Saturday, April 29th in the Fine Arts Center Recital Hall, Viterbo students will be participating in “Pepper the Performer”, a cabaret-style show in which performers will be given a habanero pepper before performing songs and scenes. Shows like this have been gaining popularity around the country recently. Theatre student, Isabella Weiss, decided to organize “Pepper the Performer” after participating in a similar show last summer. “It was very difficult to get through, but it was incredibly rewarding and fun,” said Weiss, “The best part of the experience was how supportive and loud the audience was as they encouraged us to keep going with the act.”

Weiss was able to get six individual students, Square Wheels improv team, and the acappella group Tonal 2 to volunteer to be a part of her show. “Some were less eager than others, not that I can blame them,” said Weiss, “I think everyone who has agreed to do it will have quite an unforgettable and rewarding experience.” Acts will include an oboe solo, hip hop dancing, and an entire improv set.

This is the third student production of the 2016-2017 school year. Weiss believes that student productions are a great way to expose the talents that the Viterbo student body has to offer. “I think it’s fantastic that there has been an increase in student productions this year, I hope that this trend of student-created work continues in the following years.”
