V-Hawks Baseball Spring Break Games

Retrieved from Viterbo Athletics Webpage

Spring is here, and Viterbo University’s baseball team is back out on the field. Many students travelled for spring break last week, and the V-Hawks baseball program did as well. VU baseball headed to Kentucky to play a series of games and began to turn their season around.

The V-Hawks baseball team (0-12) began their series of games against the University of the Cumberlands (17-6) in Kentucky. The Patriots earned an early lead against the V-Hawks in game one of the double-header, scoring one run in the first inning and another three runs in the second inning. Although the V-Hawks strung together a series of hits to get one run on the board in the third inning, the Patriots held their lead and scored an additional two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Patriots secured a 6-1 win against the V-Hawks.

Game two against the Patriots (18-6) was not as close scoring as the first game for the V-Hawks (0-13). The Patriots scored early and racked up 12 runs by the end of the game while holding the V-Hawks to one run, ending the game 12-1.

After a few days of rest, the V-Hawks (0-14) continued their games and faced Union College (12-10). Viterbo scored two runs in the top of the second inning, but Union College followed that by scoring four in the bottom of the inning. After another run in the third, the score was 5-2 but the V-Hawks closed the gap and tied the game in the top of the sixth inning 5-5. Union College battled back and scored another three runs, ending the game 8-5 as another tough loss for the V-Hawks.

For game four of the trip to Kentucky, Viterbo University (0-15) faced the University of the Cumberlands (19-6). Once again the Patriots scored early and often, leaving the V-Hawks scrambling for runs and eventually ending as a tough loss for Viterbo with the final score of 2-13.

Viterbo baseball (1-15) then continued their trip with a game against Asbury University (10-13). The V-Hawks found their groove against the Eagles in both games of the double-header against Asbury University. Game one started with a two run lead by the Eagles, but the V-Hawks fought back and scored three runs later in the game, ending with a much needed win 3-2. The momentum carried over into game two against the Eagles, where the V-Hawks scored six runs in the first inning alone, followed by an additional four runs in the top of the second. Although the Eagles tried to keep up, it wasn’t enough and the V-Hawks ended with another win 13-6.

The final game of the trip for the V-Hawks (2-16) was against the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers (10-10). The Tigers scored two runs in the third, one run in the fourth, two runs in the fifth and another run in the eighth. Viterbo couldn’t manage to make its way onto the scoreboard and the game ended as a tough loss 0-6 as they ended their trip and headed back to La Crosse.
