Viterbo University Bowling Strikes Again
On February 6, 2017 both the men's and women's bowling teams traveled to Madison, Wisconsin for the Great Lakes Bowling Conference Tournament (GLBC). Throughout the season so far, both teams have competed very well in tournaments and also have had many bowlers succeed individually. As a team, the lady V-Hawks placed first at the GLBC tournament and the men's team placed seventh. The women's team has won two of their seven tournaments so far this season and the men's team has also placed well in tournaments this year.
The V-Hawks women's team consists of Kaley Brault, Lauren Scheunemann, Hanna Jirsa, Kari Kipp, Soafie Jerry, Samantha Verhagen and Jade Fox. Their individual averages, respectively, are 178.63, 174.14, 171.52, 162.76, 159.07, and 157.27. The top finishers at last week's GLBC Tournament were Kaley Brault (2nd) with a tournament average of 188, followed by Lauren Scheunemann (3rd) with a close 187.33 average. Other top individual performances from the V-Hawks includes 9th place finisher Hanna Jirsa and 30th place finisher Kari Kipp. With Brault's high finish in the GLBC Tournament last week she earned All-Conference honors as well.
Viterbo University's men's bowling team includes Mitch Hanson, Cory Hegberg, Nick Hitz, Chase Thompson, Mitchell Frees, Jake Lipinski, Tylor Fenstermacher, Bryan Sengbusch, and Eric Olson. Their individual averages are 185.64, 182.45, 173.25, 167.47, 164.18, 151.21, 149.11, 147.40, and 116.00 respectively. Cory Hegberg was Viterbo's top men's finisher with a tournament average of 198.83 and placed 19th. Mitch Hanson has bowled very well this season as well, taking 22nd last week at the GLBC Tournament in Madison but holding the team's highest average. Nick Hitz ended in 36th place, Mitchell Frees in 57th, and Tylor Fenstermacher in 109th.
Viterbo University hosts their next bowling tournament at Pla-Mor Lanes in La Crosse on February 25-26. The upcoming Viterbo V-Hawk Invite will be followed with the USBC Sectionals from March 10-12 as the final tournament of the season.
