MAN TAKING "BREAK" FROM FAMILY TO FOCUS ON FACEBOOK
Saying that it was taking up too much of his time and mental space, local man Tyler Boarding took a break from his family this week to focus on Facebook. Boarding decided he was not investing himself enough in the popular social media website, and he vowed to take a week or two off from his family commitments in order to more fully devote his time to his online presence.
“Those two things, family and social media -- sure, they both have merit, and I’m not saying that’s it’s wrong or evil to spend time with your family, by any means. But you have to make a choice about where you’re going to invest your time and energy, you know? Facebook and family, you can’t prioritize both. One of those things brings me comfort, joy, and happiness on a regular basis, and offers me the validation and fulfillment I need after a long, hard day. The other one is my wife and kids. Let me put it this way; eventually, you’re going to stop and wonder what you’re doing it all for. The rat race can really wear you down, and if you let your mind get too cluttered with things that don’t really matter, you lose sight of those that do. I’ve let Facebook fall off my list of priorities, and that’s just not right.”
Boarding confirmed that his strategy for prioritizing Facebook involves picking up and turning on as much technology as possible -- computer, tablet and phone -- and spending quality time with them. “It’s going to be hard at first,” Boarding admitted. “I’m going to think about my wife and kids from time to time, and yeah, I’ll probably want to check in and see what’s happening with them when I start to get bored. But that’s the whole point of this -- to realize that Facebook is enough for me all on it’s own. I would rather be bored with Facebook than momentarily fulfilled by my family any day. That’s how committed you have to be to what you love.”
